A sinister war won't stop people from giving out wheelchairs!
A sinister war won't stop people from giving out wheelchairs!
After Russia's official invasion of Ukraine, the number of people with disabilities increased. We are upset, but we do not ignore the increase in the number of those who move around in a wheelchair - this is the right way to call a wheelchair.
It is important to understand that bedridden people die most often. If it is hypothetically possible to go down the stairs to the basement or cellar on a walker or in a wheelchair, even if it will be dangerous and long, then it is not realistic to transport yourself somewhere without special equipment and to evacuate in general.
But no matter how many men, women, and children there are with reduced mobility, everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. One deserves to live a comfortable life, because one does not know when the war will end.
That is why volunteers of Rotary HUB handed over another wheelchair donated by the Logistics Center/Logistiikkakeskus of the Society of Ukrainians to a family from Sloviansk, Donetsk region.
We know that the population of Sloviansk receives humanitarian aid both from the city authorities and from international funds and Ukrainian foundations. But in general, these are food, medical and hygiene kits. Meanwhile, such actions were and will be the result of close, Rotary-Finnish cooperation.
People with disabilities have always been in Ukraine. But we can do more than sympathize or panic. We can act and dispel the darkness together!
