Why was I afraid for so long?
Why was I afraid for so long?
According to the rules of the Rotary community, every Rotarian has the right to visit any club in the world. Having agreed in advance, their presence with the president of the club.
There are 19 Rotary Clubs in Brussels, where I am now. I chose 4 and wrote in each. What would happen next, I could not even imagine!
I got a call from a Kharkiv resident from one Rotary club to which I wrote. Today, he is a member of the SC in Brussels. We talked, he agreed to help with the translation at the meeting, since my English is very weak.
May 17, Tuesday. The meeting starts at 7:30 pm. I arrived 40 minutes before the start. I found a shop near the meeting place, and began to repeat the presentation of our projects. My palms were sweating from excitement, my heart was pounding in my ears. This is my first experience of attending a meeting in a foreign club with a speech. Pride for my entire club, for representatives of the Ukrainian Rotary community gave me strength, but also imposed responsibility! At 7:20 I stepped through the threshold of a luxurious hotel in the center of Brussels with bated breath...
"Hello Victoria, nice to meet you!", the Rotarians of RC "CANTERSTEEN" sincerely greeted me. My presentation went off without a hitch. Interested looks, empathy in the eyes, gave confidence. Unfortunately, ignorance of the language tied their hands. There was so much I wanted to say. Thanks for the warm welcome. For jokes during dinner. Among the members of the club there are a journalist, doctors, a well-known lawyer, a representative of the European Parliament, businessmen. People who have achieved a lot in life accepted me simply and sincerely!
At the moment, the president of the club is a woman with an amazing smile! Angela L. Dansby, thank you for noticing my letter and inviting me to the meeting. It was the best evening in a long time since February 24th!
