Our people know traditions differently!
Christmas is one of the favorite holidays of children and adults all over the world. In European countries, this holiday is especially loved and respected, following long-standing traditions and customs.
Some Christmas rituals remain the same, regardless of the country's geographical location. For example, the Christmas markets in the old town square are a "must have" both in Western Europe and in Eastern, Southern and Northern Europe. At the same time, some Christmas traditions in European countries may surprise us. Shall we talk about Ireland?
And our teammates, the spouses of the Ivanovу - Iryna and Gennady, will tell us an "interesting fact".
The other day, while driving past the "staruvka" (the old part of the city in which they live), they suddenly hit the brakes. No, not to take a photo next to a decorated Christmas tree. And in order to get to know a representative of one of the local Rotary clubs - Drogheda Rotary Club, who clearly did not "get out" by chance.
And they were right. Mr. Rotary Irishman said that 15 years ago his club started a tradition called "Remembrance Tree". The essence: stop passers-by, offer to write on paper the name of a loved one who has left this world, make a small donation to charity, and then attach this "note" to the Christmas tree. In this way, to honor the memory of the dead and support the projects of charitable organizations. Since 2007, the Rotary Club of Drogheda has raised over €150,000 as part of the Tree of Memories project.
Iryna and Gennady took the contacts of this Rotarian and offered to meet in January. We will follow the further development and hope for friendship between the members of our clubs.
